Windows 8.1 Official Preview Released

So today marks the release of the official, long awaited update to Windows 8.1…well, kind off. It’s a developer preview. But it does give us an idea of what to expect when the free update actually hits the general public.

At the moment the only major changes I can see in windows 8.1 as opposed to Windows 8 is that there are more customisation options, and the ability to multi-task has been improved. There is also the obvious addition of the start button, but in the official video below they haven’t covered this.

I have to admit, looking at the video above, you can see that Windows 8 is starting to come together. But there still are a number of questions that I have about Windows 8. The biggest of which being, will I still be able to use my StartIsBack menu on Windows 8? I’ve heard rumours that the legacy start menu code will be ripped out of Windows 8.1, so apps like StartisBack will no longer be able to take advantage of this code to give users a more traditional desktop experience.

For me, Windows 8 is still way off the mark, and my Ubuntu Gnome install is still the place to be. But what do you think? Are you using Windows 8, or windows 8.1? We would love to heard what you think of it…
