Samsung unveils the new Galaxy Player 5.8 with Android 4.0

Watch your favourite movies, TV shows and listen to your favorites songs on a big screen (relatively speaking) whilst on the go with the new Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 with Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). Yes, you guessed it, 5.8 stands for the screen size – not quite as good as your 52″ HD TV at home, but nevertheless, it will allow you to watch your HD content whilst being out and about.

On board the device has some great features – like the high quality stereo speakers, the mDNIe,  Samsung’s Sound Alive technology and more – The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 comes with a 2,500 mAh high capacity battery, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi  802.11 b/g/n and GPS (so you can find your way home when you inevitably stay on the train too long from watching too much TV). The device also sports a 5.8 inch HD TFT LCD display with 960 x 540 resolution, Samsung’s TouchWiz User Interface based on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, so Galaxy smartphone users will feel comfortable.

You can choose between a 16GB and 32GB version of the device and with it’s microSD slot, so you can add an additional 32GB of storage at any time.

Samsung describe the Galaxy Player 5.8 as a study device for students, using the term “learning hub” to describe the device, allowing students to have access to useful resources like a dictionary and a variety of Internet service. I don’t really see it as a ‘learning hub’ though – I see it as more of a possible contender to the iPod touch (provided Apple don’t get it banned).

At the moment Samsung are playing their cards very close to their chest when it comes to price. As soon as we know though, we’ll let you guys know!

Would you replace your iPod with a Galaxy Player 5.8?
