Ghost Blogging Platform Becomes A Reality, Bringing Bloggers Back To Their Roots

Ghost BannerBack in March I wrote an article that introduced a possible new player to the blogging world. But back then the Ghost blogging platform was nothing more than an idea to allow us bloggers to get back the pleasure of writing without the complicated overheads of running a mammoth like WordPress. Well, Ghost is set to become a reality… albeit with a little help from kickstarter.

The Ghost blogging platform has only been on Kickstarter for 24 hours and already they have managed to get £15,000 of their £25,000 target. I think it’s it’s safe to say that they’re going to hit this target with plenty left over by the end of their 30 day stint on kickstarter.

What is Ghost?

Well, put simply the Ghost blogging platform is an extremely simplified way of blogging that allows us writers to concentrate on what we enjoy – writing. Rather than sit here and explain in detail what Ghost is all about, here is a video from Ghost’s creator John O’Nolan on what it’s all about:

So now you have a better idea of what the Ghost blogging platform is all about, you’re going to want to get involved, right? I know I do anyway. So to get involved with the Ghost blogging platform there are a number of pledges you can make on Kickstarter starting from just £10, some of which even include hosting.

I’ve personally made a pledge, and many others have to. Remember I said at the start of this article that they’ve raised £15,000? Well, in the 30 minutes or so that it’s taken me to write this article, they have managed to raise another £1,200 and currently have £16,200. At this rate Ghost will hit their target by the end of the day!

For more information, or to make a pledge, head on over to the Ghost Kickstarter page or jump on to the official Ghost website to sign up for their newsletter or find out a little more general information about the Ghost project.

I think the Ghost blogging platform is an awesome idea, and I personally can’t wait to try it. I’d love to move RefuGeeks over to Ghost, but I don’t know what version 1.0 will bring to the table so I can’t say for sure if I will. However, I will probably move my personal blog to it and I will of course be keeping you guys fully up to date on all the ghost new. So remember to sigh up for our RSS feed or our email newsletter.

Would you use Ghost? Or are you happy with WordPress, Joomla or Drupal? Does the world need another blogging platform? Why not tell us your thoughts in the comments section below…

Looks very interesting Kev – a bit like Medium, but with more control perhaps.

    Think I will look closer.

No problem John. Great to see that you’ve smashed your target already. Keep up the great work…I can’t wait to see the results!
