Customising Blogger With Custom Themes

A while back we wrote a series of articles on how you can make some simple customisations to Google’s free blogging platform, Blogger. In this article we will be showing you how you can give your Blogger blog a completely different look with custom themes for your blog. As with our previous posts we will be using the Kev’s Cats example blog for this. Here is what my blog looks like now…

We are now going to apply the Yasmin theme from New Blogger Themes. New Blogger Themes has a tonne of both free and premium templates fro Blogger that will give your blog a great unique look. If you’re using Blogger for your blog then I would highly recommend checking them out. Each theme comes with instructions on how to install it, but it’s a very simple process. All you need to do is download the theme XML file then go to Template > Design > Edit HTML from the Blogger dashboard. You can then copy and paste the custom theme into the popup window, save it and your new theme will be applied.

I’d highly recommend that you copy and paste the current theme HTML into a text editor and save that as backup in case you ever want to roll back. From here you can customise the look and colour of your blog by editing the HTML file to your liking. Here is what my Cat Blog looks like now…

Adding a custom theme to your Blogger blog can really give it a professional look. Adding a custom domain name to your Blogger blog will mean that users won’t even know that your site is hosted on a free platform like Blogger. Do you use Blogger for your blog? Why not tell us your thoughts in the comments section below…
